Segovia's Historical Reputation

The city of Segovia in the province of Segovia in Spain has a historical reputation. Located only a few kilometers away from Spanish capital city of Madrid, this city is thousands of years old and has everything for history lovers. There are ancient buildings, cathedrals, churches, parks, museums and monuments for public exhibition. A good aspect is that the city is well maintained and conserved to the best standards possible.

There is a beautiful cathedral located in Plaza Mayor in Segovia. This cathedral is designed in the Gothic style and was established in the sixteenth century. This cathedral is worth seeing especially because of its good size and excellent appearance. One of the most famous monuments in the city is the Aqueduct. It has 120 columns and 166 arches which look excellent even in this era. It was originally designed in the first century AD and it is the world’s best preserved Aqueduct from the Roman era of Spain.

There is a famous fortress in Segovia which is known as the Alcazar de Segovia. It was built in the fourteenth century and it is perfectly preserved. There is a pedestrian street in the city known as the Calle Real and on this street there are plenty of monuments of public interest. Some of these include Casa de los Picos, Iglesia de San Martin, Palacio del Conde and Plaza de Juan Bravo. Most of the buildings on this pedestrian street are antique and worth visiting.

There are a few convents in Segovia that are impressive and should be visited. Convento de San Antonio is one of them and was originally established in the 15th century. Another one is Convento de los Padres Carmelitas and this convent contains the remains of the great poet San Juan de la Cruz. There is a beautiful Roman church, the Iglesia de la Vera Cruz. It is also a great place of attraction for many tourists.

Beside this church there is a great building dating back from the sixteenth century, known as the Palacio Episcopal.
